Gap following retailers....

The Gap has finally joined retailers like Target with Isaac Mizrahi, H&M with Viktor & Rolf, Spiegel with Norma Kamali, Adidas with Stella McCartney, Payless with Laura Poretzky, JcPenney with Nicole Miller, etc (the list goes on and on)...by having a collaboration with the European designer Roland Mouret. Roland Mouret has designed a dress collection for The Gap, which consists of 5 very feminine and trendy dresses in black and red. The red colored dress is part of the (PRODUCT) Red campaign. The dresses will be selling in 5 NYC stores with a price range from $88 to $108. The dresses are made of fabrics including rayon/wool jersey, wool/elastane and cotton/polyester blends and are available in an array of silhouettes including scoop neck, boat neck and bracelet sleeve styles.

Here is what Roland Mouret had to say: “I was interested in the opportunity to make my designs available to a broader audience and was particularly excited about the PRODUCT (RED) involvement. This initiative is so important and Gap has given me the opportunity to be able to translate my ideas in a more casual sensibility and at the same time help raise funds that will target the AIDS pandemic in Africa.”

About (PRODUCT) RED: It was introduced in the United States this Fall by Bono and Bobby Shriver in an effort to raise awareness and funds from different companies and put it towards the fight to eliminate AIDS in Africa. Half of the profits from the sales of (PRODUCT) RED benefit the Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa.

I wish that Roland Mouret would have designed a version of this Ready To Wear (RTW) Spring 2006 dress(left) for The Gap.
But not all wishes come true...

What do you think about the GAP using celebrities in their ads? Do you think it will have a positive effect on the company's reputation and bottom line?

A lot of people are saying the dresses are ugly and shapeless (probably why the prices were all reduced) but I for one am a big fan of shapeless dresses. Sadly, the Gap here doesnt carry the Roland Mouret line.. le sigh
